Timeless for the UW

Here's a sweet event from the weekend for the University of Washington's College of Arts & Sciences. It was an award ceremony celebrating 150 years of the school!

Held at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Seattle, we took over all of the meeting & banquet rooms on the second floor. Each room was to represent a different UW theme, from The Academic Lounge (a Jeopardy game show!), to The Quad (a cherry tree motif), and even a Tailgate Lounge, seven environments where created.

Here are a few snap shots of our decor. Also, the premier of our new royal purple satin drape! We're expecting it to be a new color trend for this year!

YWCA WE Inspire Luncheon

For the past five years we have been working with Seattle's YWCA on their WE Inspire luncheon series. There are a few organizations PJ Hummel & Company cares dearly for, and the Y is a big one. Empowering women through tough times is very important.

The Seattle session with 2000 people happened yesterday with special guest Sheryl WuDunn. She looked wonderful in front of our white satin drape that covered the stage. In the lobby we created an arch over registration with 3' balloons matching the YWCA's branding. We also set out pieces from our Kickback line of furniture with sculptures of enormous 5' balloons to continue the circle motif. We rarely design with balloons, but when they are 5' tall no one can deny how awesome they are!

Light Box Centerpieces

Living in the Pacific Northwest, we certainly see our fair share of art glass, it's everywhere! Not to mention Tacoma born Dale Chihuly. So naturally many auctions, fundraisers, and social events use art glass as centerpieces.

While glass centerpieces are beautiful, the common complaint is that they disappear on tables in event lighting. The vibrant colors are muted, and the pieces are forgotten about.

Let us share our solution, and the newest addition to our centerpiece collection, our Light Boxes! These 12" square boxes have a 4.25" platform to raise and illuminate any glass piece. The boxes themselves are clean & simple black. They blend into any setting while the tops glow to perfectly showoff the artwork placed on top.

Only at PJ Hummel & Company, think about Light Boxes for your next event!

The Emerald City!

Today we're revisiting St. Joes Auction from last year. This is the event we won an Emerald City Applause Award (how fitting!...) for Best Industry Organization Team Effort Budget $25,001-$100,000. A combination of Hollywood Lighting, Blue Danube Productions, & PJ Hummel & Company transformed St. Joesph School's auditorium intro a magical Wizard of Oz Fantasy world for their annual fundraiser!

We created the delightful entry with our iridescent green drape and our over-sized red poppies. The lighting was spectacular with the school's architecture, beautiful entrance inside & out!

Inside the ballroom, we lined the walls with our 20' high white satin drape, which was then uplit in green - furthering the Emerald City theme. We also designed two 12' long diamond chandeliers with crystal orbs suspended inside, and lined with lush white feathers!

Thank you David Wentworth Photography for these wonderful shots!

Taste Washington 2012

For the fifth year in a row we've had the pleasure of decorating Taste Washington, Seattle's Wine & Food Weekend! This year the festivities were bumped up to TWO whole days! We're happy to see this sweet little event grow.

This year we did a farmers market vignette with vintage decor & real produce, wine propping for the Viking Stage, chocolate draping & centerpieces for the dessert bar(new drape color premier!!), and our favorite - the elegant VIP lounge.

Gator Gala

This weekend we went bold & vibrant for the Gator Gala! They chose a circus theme this year with artwork in red, peacock blue, purple, and gold - perfect for our exclusive collection of drape! We made the foyer a "tent" with delicate pullbacks for doorways. A vintage painted drapery backdrop hung in the ballroom and was pulled through the doorway to the foyer creating a whimsical tunnel entry into the ballroom.

The Ballroom was striped in red, purple, gold and blue satin drape. A dazzling ten foot round gilded chandelier with cascading tufted organza was the main focal point in the space. We created playful gold canopies over the auction tables to carry the tent motif throughout the night. Table decor and centerpieces alternated between two fanciful looks. Half of the tables were adorned in gold crochet linens over red underlays with 3' tall vases topped with back ostrich feather plums. The rest had red duchess satin linens with art-glass (part of the silent auction) displayed on our new light boxes! The light boxes are sleek and blend into any table design while showcasing art-glass flawlessly in low event lighting!

To complete the circus them, a human element was added to entertain guests. Two performers danced & decorated cupcakes for their audience while also selling raffle tickets.

Once again we have all of King Dahl's essentials for event design:
• A memorable entry treatment
• Focal Points
• Interesting use of lighting (look at the chandelier!)
• A human element
• & Great food!

Four Corners

We are often asked to design events that cater to attendees who come from all over the world. This particular event was a party at the end of an international conference. We featured a Rio Carnival theme with a dramatic tropical arch and a gold glow bar, a NY Martini dance lounge, an Irish Pub with grass centerpieces, and a colorful Bollywood lounge with our kickback furniture.

This event is a great example of King Dahl's essentials for good event design:
• Focal Points
• A human element (The entertainment! Performers not pictured...)
• Good food (Thanks to the Grand Hyatt's team!)
• Interesting use of lighting
• & Entry treatments!
